The GermanDevDays 2026, held July 22–23 in Frankfurt am Main, featured presentations, workshops, and networking opportunities centered on cutting-edge topics in game development. The conference brought together students, industry creatives, and representatives from academia to discuss current developments and challenges in the gaming sector.

Representing emergenCITY, Nadja Thiessen attended the conference with Krisopolis, emergenCITY’s first serious game on crisis preparedness:

“Personally, I particulary enjoyed the presentation by René Barth and Leon Noel Micheel from ProLudens e.V. on game development-based learning. It demonstrated that learning doesn’t just take place while playing a serious game, but already during its development. We observed this effect firsthand during the development of Krisopolis: The collaborative process with the students encouraged them to engage deeply with the topic of crisis prevention, develop creative solutions, and consider different perspectives.”

In addition to the expert presentations, the GermanDevDays offered numerous opportunities for discussion and for testing games. The on-site discussions provided valuable insights for further research and development in the field of game-based approaches to resilience and crisis preparedness.
