Bringing the health of animals, humans, and the environment together in order to prevent global crises arising from health risks such as pandemics: this is the idea behind the term “One Health.” On August 26, four experts from LOEWE’s cutting-edge research community will discuss this topic aboard the MS Wissenschaft. As part of the “Dialog an Deck” (Dialogue on Deck) series, Carolin Bock, Principal Investigator at emergenCITY and Professor of Entrepreneurship at TU Darmstadt, will contribute her expertise to the public panel discussion entitled “One Health – How Humans, Animals, and the Environment Are Connected.” The event will take place aboard the MS Wissenschaft in Rüsselsheim and is part of this year’s tour of the ship, which focuses on the theme “Medicine of the Future.”
Health in the Context of the Environment, Cities, and Agriculture
Together with Prof. Dr. Sandra Ciesek from LOEWE-COROPAN, Prof. Dr. Bernhard Schieffer from LOEWE-Habitat, and Prof. Dr. Miriam Athmann from LOEWE-TRIO, Prof. Bock will discuss why One Health is one of the most important topics shaping the future of society and what answers science is already providing today.
The researchers’ work covers a broad range of topics: from emerging viral infections and zoonotic diseases to the health impacts of climate and environmental change, as well as sustainable agricultural systems and resilient urban environments.
As a representative of LOEWE-emergenCITY, Prof. Bock will contribute perspectives on resilient, crisis-ready cities and healthy living environments to the One Health approach. Her research focuses on decision-making processes and the value contributions of different types of investors, academic spin-offs and technology transfer, as well as entrepreneurial action in times of crisis. Her work demonstrates how innovation, civic engagement, and robust urban systems can help cities better prepare for future challenges.
About the MS Wissenschaft and “Dialog an Deck”
The MS Wissenschaft is a floating science center that this year is hosting an exhibition and various events centered around the theme “Medicine of the Future.” From May 7 to September 30, the exhibition ship is touring Germany, Austria, and Poland, encouraging visitors to explore, experiment, and participate.
“Dialog an Deck” invites members of the public, and explicitly also school students, to engage in conversation with researchers as part of the panel discussions.
The discussion will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with admission beginning at 6:00 p.m. Participation is free of charge and no registration is required.
