emergenCITY-PI Prof. Dr. Iryna Gurevych receives the first LOEWE-professorship of the Hessian research funding programme at TU Darmstadt. The LOEWE programme of the Hessian Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and the Arts is providing around 2.52 million Euros for Prof. Gurevych and her research lab Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing to keep the renowned computer scientist at TU Darmstadt and, thus, in the state of Hesse.

Since 2006, Prof. Gurevych has been conducting fundamental research on automatic language processing and artificial intelligence with application in the humanities, arts and social sciences at TU Darmstadt. She has already headed an Emmy Noether Group of the German Research Foundation, held a Lichtenberg-Professorship of the Volkswagen Foundation and was the spokesperson of an interdisciplinary DFG-Research Training Group. At emergenCITY, Gurevych is working in the Information programme area on the processing of information that is initially incompatible with computer analysis, such as spoken language or visual communication.

Already at the beginning of this year, Prof. Gurevych was appointed Vice-President-elect of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL). This international scientific society deals with computational linguistics and artificial intelligence and will be chaired by Gurevych as president from 2023.
