The visit of Hessian Digital Minister Prof. Dr. Kristina Sinemus and State Minister for Federal-State Relations Dr. Michael Meister to emergenCITY was covered by the Frankfurter Rundschau, the Darmstädter Echo, as well as Radio FFH and RTL Hessen. The central question was how the research and transfer expertise on the resilience of digital cities built up in Darmstadt can be developed into a permanent research structure. The Darmstädter Echo quoted Digital Minister Sinemus that emergenCITY is “not just a research project, it is the foundation for a national digital resilience centre.”
The Strategic Importance of the Location Darmstadt
RTL Hessen featured demonstrators such as the Litfaßsäule 4.0 in its segment “Communication in Emergencies.” The broadcaster quoted the Digital Minister on the strategic significance of Darmstadt as a data center location:
“We believe that precisely because we are a major European hub, it is especially important to be prepared for crises like these. Because if the European network fails here, we will lose all connectivity from one day to the next. We want to be prepared for that, and to do so we must invest in network resilience.”
State Minister for Federal-State Relations Dr. Michael Meister emphasized the relevance of the research at the federal level in the Darmstädter Echo:
“The topic is extremely important, and we need to reach broader agreements — on the one hand to advance research, and on the other to bring its applications to a wider scale.”
