Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS)

Program Area

The area of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) covers the topic of (semi-)autonomous robotic platforms and systems for emergency response and recovery in very complex environments. These systems further facilitate to establish communication backbones in absence of infrastructure and investigate distributed approaches for autonomous energy supply.

Research Question

How to enhance the resilience of digital cities by means of Cyber-Physical Systems to obtain situational awareness, in crises?

Projects

Self-Organizing Decentralized Emergency Operation for the Critical Infrastructures Energy and Water (CPS1)

This project applies a holistic approach to improve resilience of critical infrastructures such as water and energy. In the case of destroyed infrastructures, self-organizing decentralized systems that merge public and private infrastructure components, can contribute to context-driven protection and reestablishment of basic water and energy supply in crisis situations.

Cyber-Physical Systems for Detection and Analysis of Crisis Situations (CPS2)

This project aims to collect and analyse relevant data from the physical world to assess crisis situations. The goal is to design systems that are able to obtain real-time data within crisis situations in a collaborative and autonomous fashion. This includes the planning and orchestration of heterogeneous robot and sensor systems.

Principal Investigators: Oskar von Stryk Abdelhak Zoubir

Situative Cooperation of Cyber-Physical Agents for Resilient Urban Mobility (CPS3)

During crises heterogeneous mobile and stationary cyber-physical agents can support decentralized self-organising ICT infrastructures. The goal of this project is to facilitate coordination of the existing agents by means of self-adaptive and decentralized algorithms.
