Stefan Fabian’s research contributes to emergenCITY by enhancing digital resilience in crisis re- sponse through the use of autonomous rescue robotics. It focuses primarily on the post-crisis phase, where mobile robots can be deployed to gather crucial information about structural dam- age, environmental hazards, and accessibility, without exposing human responders to danger. Since crisis environments are often unstructured and unpredictable, these systems must offer robust semi-autonomous capabilities and adaptable assistance functions that can operate across diverse tasks and terrains. Beyond immediate response, many of the developed methods also support preventive measures. By enabling autonomous inspection and real-time monitoring, these systems can detect early warning signs of potential failures or hazards, contributing to cri- sis avoidance. This dual applicability enhances the reliability of critical infrastructure.
