Matthias Hollick, Scientific Coordinator and Speaker of emergenCITY, presented at the SICP Symposium 2025 in Paderborn on September 30 addressing digital resilience and cybersecurity.

His key message: “Resilience is a process, not a product. You have to continuously work on it.”

His presentation demonstrated how digital resilience and cybersecurity can mutually strengthen each other and why combining both approaches is essential for crisis-proof information and communication technology (ICT) systems.

The symposium gathered numerous experts from business, research, and politics to address the central question: How can Germany build digital resilience in the age of AI and global supply chains that strengthens value creation, security, and technological sovereignty?

Four core areas of digital resilience were examined: physical infrastructure, digital infrastructure, organization and processes, and cyber-physical systems. Additional insights came from Dr. Volker Krummel (Utimaco) on the quantum threat, Dr. David Förster (Westfalen Weser Netz GmbH) on digitalization’s role in resilient energy grids, and Prof. Dr. Simon Trang (University of Paderborn) on the European NIS2 directive. A high-level panel discussion with representatives from politics, science, and industry concluded the program.
