From 26 to 28 June 2025, the GameDays took place at TU Darmstadt, organized by the Serious Games working group. emergenCITY presented the serious game Krisopolis at its stand - an educational game for smartphones and tablets that is being developed by an interdisciplinary team of scientists and students. The aim of the game is to raise awareness of crisis preparedness in a fictitious scenario and thus train the ability to act in exceptional situations in a playful way. At the stand, development managers Nadja Thiessen and Joachim Schulze provided insights into the development process and the scientific background of Krisopolis. Visitors of all ages tried out the game on site - with consistently positive feedback. The testers particularly emphasized the low-threshold access to the topic of crisis prevention as well as the realistic scenarios that made the connection to everyday life clear.
In Krisopolis, players take on the role of an avatar in a virtual city that is confronted with realistic crisis scenarios such as power outages, pandemics and supply shortages. Under these conditions, basic needs such as food, drinking water and medical care must be secured. The game combines scientific findings from computer science, urban planning and disaster control with modern game design principles. The release of Krisopolis is planned for the Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Microsoft Store in the near future.
