At the invitation of Annette Rudolph-Cleff, emergenCITY PI and head of the Urban Design and Development Group at the Department of Architecture at TU Darmstadt, professor Laura Arpiainen learned about the research conducted at the LOEWE Center. During her three-day visit, Arpiainen visited the emergenCITY Lab and inquired about various emergenCITY demonstrators. She also met with Michèle Knodt, deputy coordinator of emergenCITY, for an exchange of ideas.
Laura Arpiainen is a inaugural professor for health and well-being architecture at Aalto University in Finland and is also part of RESCUE, a Finnish research project that focuses on sustainable crisis management in urban environments. The trained architect heads a research focus there that addresses the question of how crises affect social sustainability and human well-being at the level of properties, buildings, and spaces, and how the resilience of communities can be improved at these levels.
