How Does Darmstadt Perceive the New Warning Device?

Citizen survey on the Advertising Pillar 4.0 at Riegerplatz completed
The Advertising Pillar 4.0 has been in place on Riegerplatz in Darmstadt for around three months now and had its first practical test at the Darmstadt siren testing in June. As a local warning device, it complements conventional warning and emergency communication in Darmstadt. An additional display, which is powered by photovoltaics and methanol fuel cells, allows the Darmstadt fire department to transmit information via the Pillar to the neighborhood. But how does the population of Darmstadt perceive this new function of the advertising pillar?
emergenCITY scientist Joachim Schulze has investigated this question with a survey. Together with his colleagues Monja Kulla and Hannah Watzke, Schulze spoke to more than 100 Darmstadt residents on site at the Advertising Pillar 4.0, collected valuable feedback and presented the pillar once again. Schulze’s preliminary conclusion:
“Although the detailed evaluation of our survey is still pending, I am very pleased that the majority of respondents are in favor of our project!”
The architect developed the questionnaire in interdisciplinary cooperation with emergenCITY-PI Michèle Knodt and political scientist Christine Quittkat. The answers are now being scientifically evaluated.
