FAZ and Darmstädter Echo report on the release of the first emergenCITY serious game
On December 12, 2025, the first emergenCITY serious game, Krisopolis, was officially presented at the Kurzweil Gallery, and its release was celebrated.
Both the Darmstädter Echo and the FAZ were present and reported on Krisopolis.
In its reporting, the Darmstädter Echo focused on the game’s development history and prospects. It offers an opportunity to impart knowledge about preparing for crisis situations and how to remain capable of acting in an emergency. The advantage of the game over brochures or websites on the subject of disaster control is its greater reach. “Every second German plays,” Echo quotes Joachim Schulze, a research assistant at emergenCITY who was involved in the development.
Meanwhile, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper investigated how well Krisopolis is actually prepared for crises and put it to the test in a game trial. At the beginning, a brief overview of the game’s basic functions is provided, and the graphics and remaining programming errors are described. However, more emphasis is placed on practical advice, such as the integrated brochure from the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance or information on preventive measures such as chlorine tablets for purifying contaminated water.
Various stakeholders, such as the Ministry of Digitalization and Innovation in Hesse and the German Committee for Disaster Prevention, pointed out that the game is available free of charge in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. The fire department of the city of Hattersheim am Main posted a short description of the serious game on Facebook with the headline: “Are you ready for an emergency?”
