Bastian is a postdoctoral researcher at the Secure Mobile Networking Lab at TU Darmstadt, Germany, where he is working on Software Defined Wireless Networks. Before moving to Darmstadt, he was a research fellow at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland and a PhD student at Paderborn University, Germany, where he was focusing on the performance and robustness of vehicular and sensor networks. Since 2017, Bastian is also a Project Officer of GNU Radio, a popular open source software defined radio framework.
